The book on Mediation by Sr. Prof. (Dr.) Usha Tondon and Prof. (Dr.) Ashutosh Mishra was released at an event at Indian Habitat Centre, New Delhi on 25.10.24.

New Delhi, 25th October 2024 – The much-anticipated book "Mediation: An Effective Mechanism for Peaceful Resolution of Disputes", edited by Senior Professor (Dr.) Usha Tandon and Prof. (Dr.) Ashutosh Mishra was officially released in a distinguished event held at the India Habitat Centre. The book is published by Bloomsbury and features a foreword by Hon’ble Mr. Justice P.S. Narasimha, Judge, Supreme Court of India.

The event saw an impressive assembly of esteemed guests, with H.E. Shri Shiv Pratap Shukla, Hon’ble Governor of Himachal Pradesh, gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest. The ceremony was further honoured by the presence of Hon'ble Mr. Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra, Judge, Supreme Court of India, as the Special Guest of Honour, and Sh. Arjun Ram Meghwal, Hon'ble Union Minister of Law and Justice, Government of India, as the Distinguished Guest of Honour.

Opening Address and Significance of the Book

Senior Professor (Dr.) Usha Tandon, Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Rajendra Prasad National Law University, Prayagraj, delivered the opening address, sharing the book’s origins from an International Conference on Mediation co-hosted by the Faculty of Law, University of Delhi, and Delhi School of Public Policy and Governance, in association with the Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee (MCPC), Supreme Court of India. She emphasized the growing importance of mediation as a vital tool for conflict resolution.

Reflections on Mediation's Historical and Modern Relevance

Senior Professor (Dr.) V.K. Ahuja, Director of the Indian Law Institute, discussed India’s deep-rooted history in mediation and its continued relevance in modern society. Hon'ble Law Minister Sh. Arjun Ram Meghwal highlighted the book's pertinence, stating, “Mediation is crucial, and without it, nothing will work now or in the future. It is suitable for all types of disputes, and parties must be made aware of its benefits.”

Hon'ble Mr. Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra extended his congratulations to the editors, praising the book as a timely resource for legal professionals, students, the judiciary, and the public. H.E. Shri Shiv Pratap Shukla shared the importance of mediation by referencing the Ramayana, illustrating its role in historical governance and conflict resolution.
